In the early 1980s, Rotary started planning and, in 1985, began its aggressive fight to rid the world of polio, a deadly and crippling disease that targeted mostly children in more than 125 countries around the world. Now, in 2008, there are only four countries - Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan - that are still endemic.

How can you help?

If you're an Ithaca Sunrise Rotary Club member, sell those buttons and continue to bring in your bottle and can deposit receipts. We are also collecting loose change from your wallets or pockets at each weekly meeting.

If you are not an Ithaca Sunrise club member, please purchase a Fun Meter button from any club member. With a moveable pointer, it is fun to wear and is guaranteed to generate a comment or two! We are asking for a donation of $3 per button, all of which will go toward our club's goal of raising at least $1000 this year in support of Rotary's $100 Million Challenge .

Please visit www.rotary.org/endpolio and http://rotary.org/en/serviceandfellowship/polio/helperadicatepolio to learn all you can about Rotary's polio eradication efforts and make a financial contribution.

Rotary wants to finish this polio eradication program and make polio a thing of the past. With the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization, and governments worldwide, we can do it!
